Rawalpindi Ring Road is an upcoming mega infrastructure project proposed for development with the monetary assistance of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB). With a $400 million budget allocated, this project is predicted to be a game-changer for the twin cities. Commissioner Retired Capt Mohammad Mehmood has briefed media agencies that a number of investors are interested in the construction of this project on Build, Operate, and Transfer (BOT) Basis.

While briefing the media regarding the Ring Road Rawalpindi updates a few days ago, Commissioner Retired Capt Mohammad Mehmood stated that the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), including a number of other local and international investors, is interested in developing the Ring Road project in Rawalpindi.

This statement came after a major review of the feasibility of the project alongside the Leh Express Way. These two projects are considered to be some of the most prolific projects for the twin cities as they will be designed to ease up the traffic in the city as well as bring an exponential surge in the property prices of the nearby regions.

For instance, Capital Smart City and Blue World City Islamabad are two of the fastest-growing housing societies near this proposed Ring Road Rawalpindi. Therefore, these housing schemes are expected to see a massive increment in their value as time passes by.

According to Mr. Mehmood, the alignment of the road loop has been finalized by a professional consultant hired for the purpose. A detailed design of the projects is almost completed and the project is expected to stretch from Rawat to Thalian.

More specifically, this Ring Road project is expected to originate from Channi Sher Alam Bridge near Rawat. This location is primarily on the G.T Road. However, the road extends up to Thalian interchange situated on the Lahore-Islamabad M2 motorway, near to the New Islamabad International Airport. This is the point where projects such as Blue World City Islamabad, University Town, and Capital City Islamabad are being developed in close proximity.

Mr. Mehmood has assured the media that the design of Ring Road Rawalpindi would be completed in March, with the immediate starting of work on its construction and development. The Commissioner has also ordered the government authorities to make sure that adequate land is acquired for the development of this project.

Furthermore, Mr. Mehmood also notified the media regarding the launch of the much-anticipated Rawalpindi Institute of Urology on Muree Road in Rawalpindi. According to him, the equipment is being installed in the building and the construction is almost complete. After the successful construction and maintenance of Rawalpindi Institute of Cardiology, this is yet another project which can also be considered as a great asset for the residents of Rawalpindi and Islamabad.

In addition to this, Mr. Mehmood also stressed upon the idea that the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) should initiate a survey of traffic on the Airport Road to see if an underpass or a flyover is required for the ease of movement of citizens near Ammar Chowk in Rawalpindi. He further added that Ammar Chowk is also important location for the Leh Express and Ring Road project as the main roads would be connecting to Leh Express at Ammar Chowk.

In line with all of these developments, the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has initiated its work, and its traffic engineering and urban planning departments are carrying out this survey which shall add to the overall effective planning and development of the proposed Ring Road Project in Rawalpindi. Once this project is completed, the twin cities will be even more integrated and the citizens will be given an alternative route for inter as well as intra-city travel.
